Prime Minister’s Media Conference – Saturday 14th August, 2021.
Prime Minister Dr the Hon. Keith Rowley has appealed to parents and guardians to allow children from 12 years old to be vaccinated against the COVD-19 virus.
The Prime Minister made the comments at a media conference held at the Diplomatic Centre, St Ann’s today (Saturday 14th August, 2021).
Acting Principal Medical Officer, Dr. Maryam Richards revealed that there has been an uptick in the number of positive COVID-19 pediatric patients. She said there are currently three severely ill children at the hospital with COVID-19.
This week Trinidad and Tobago received a donation of 305,370 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine from the Government of the United States of America. This is the only World Health Organization approved COVID-19 vaccine suitable for use by children from age 12 years old.
The Prime Minister stated that currently Trinidad and Tobago has 883,000 doses of vaccines available. He said, “Any person willing to get vaccinated should be able to do so.”
Prime Minister Rowley also announced the following:
From Monday 16th August, 2020 –
• The reopening of the retail sector.
• The resumption of Unemployment Relief Programme (URP) and CEPEP operations.
From Monday 23rd August, 2021, Personal Services such as barbers, hairdressers, nail technicians and domestic workers will be allowed to resume services.
Dr Rowley thanked all regional and international governments who have generously donated COVID-19 vaccines to the people of Trinidad and Tobago.
