Official Opening Ceremony for the La Brea Community Centre

Prime Minister the Hon. Stuart R. Young, SC has announced plans to establish a Ministry of Implementation and Efficiency within the Government of Trinidad and Tobago following the upcoming General Elections. This new Ministry under the Office of the Prime Minister, aims to enhance the delivery and execution of Government initiatives.
Prime Minister Young made the announcement at the official opening ceremony for the La Brea Community Centre today (Friday 21st March, 2025).
In delivering the feature address the Prime Minister stated, “I am going to introduce, for the first time, a Ministry of Implementation and Efficiency in the Government of Trinidad and Tobago out of the Office of the Prime Minister, because for too long, things get lost in abeyance.”
The Prime Minister said the Ministry will deal with the inefficiencies across the system, break bureaucracy within the confines of the law and get things done.
Prime Minister Young also emphasised the importance of utilising community centres as a space for residents to develop skills and expand their knowledge. He encouraged citizens to unite, strengthen the nation, and protect their communities.
The La Brea Community Centre, located on Point Sable Road, replaces a previous structure that was demolished to accommodate the new, modern facility. The new two-story building features an auditorium, ICT-access computer lab, library, gym, an elevator, and an audiovisual room.
During the ceremony, several residents were presented with awards from the La Brea Village Council in recognition of their contributions to the community.
Today Prime Minister Young also turned the sod for the La Brea Community Enhancement Sporting Project.
This new facility will include the following features:
– A 25m community swimming pool designed for both recreational and competitive swimming with 8 lanes.
– A dual-purpose pavilion for approximately 200 people, site office, canteen, washrooms and changing facilities underneath the pavilion.
– Parking for approximately 15 vehicles.
– Upgrade of the existing playing field.
– 16 Multi-purpose vendor booths.
Minister of Sport and Community Development, the Hon Shamfa Cudjoe-Lewis, Minister of Digital Transformation and Minister in the Ministry of Finance, Senator the Hon. Hassel Bacchus and Minister of Labour and Member of Parliament for La Brea, the Hon. Stephen Mc Clashie were present at today’s ceremony.
Several Government Ministers and Members of Parliament also attended today’s event.
