Prime Minister Attends Handover Ceremony for Skinner Park
Skinner Park is officially Re-Opened!
Prime Minister Dr the Hon. Keith Rowley attended the official Handover Ceremony for the Skinner Park Sporting Facility in San Fernando today (Monday 06th February, 2023).
After closure in 2019, works began on the multi-purpose venue. Boasting a new football field and cycling track, this facility can hold 6000 patrons. The covered pavilion consists of 3000 seats while the two uncovered pavilions hold 1500 seats each.
Skinner Park’s facilities also include home and away lockers, dining areas, officials’ lockers, concession stands, elevators, a car park area, a gym, a club room, meeting rooms, eight corporate boxes and VIP box.
During the feature address, Dr Rowley thanked his Cabinet colleagues for remaining committed to completing the project during the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said, “One of the commitments the Government has made is to ensure that as we do more with less, that sport and culture are upfront, because the people of Trinidad and Tobago without sport we wouldn’t be able to identify ourselves. Without acknowledging the role that culture plays, then this diversified community may never survive as a nation. Sport and culture are not secondary, they are primary aspects of our existence.”
Dr Rowley encouraged the community of San Fernando to ensure their facility is maintained for the benefit of the future generation.
Minister of Rural Development and Local Government and Member of Parliament for San Fernando West, the Hon Faris Al-Rawi, Minister in the Ministry of Finance and Member of Parliament for San Fernando East, the Hon Brian Manning, Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Arts, Senator the Hon Randall Mitchell, Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister – Communications, The Hon. Symon de Nobriga, Minister of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries, Senator the Hon. Kazim Hosein and San Fernando Mayor, His Worship, Alderman Junia Regrello were in attendance.
