Prime Minister Dr the Hon. Keith Rowley made adjustments to the existing COVID-19 Public Health Ordinance Regulations at a media conference held at Blenheim House, the Prime Minister’s official residence in Tobago today (Friday 03rd September, 2021).
Dr Rowley announced the following:
– Places of Worship will be allowed to operate from Monday 06th September, 2021 at 25% capacity.
– There is to be increased capacity on the sea and air bridges. The sea bridge capacity will be expanded from 50% to 75%, while arrangements will be made with Caribbean Airlines to increase the number of flights on the air-bridge.
– Prime Minister Rowley said if in four weeks, the projections continue with low COVID-19 positive numbers and consistent vaccinations, the aim will be to reopen bars and allow in-house dining, gyms, cinemas, and private members clubs. He said certain aspects of business can become “safe zones” where vaccinated people can participate.
From tomorrow (Saturday 04th September, 2021), 50,000 doses of the Pfizer COVID -19 vaccine will be made available to all eligible members of the public. This will be used to vaccinate 25,000 people.
Dr Rowley expressed his disappointment with the low vaccination numbers in Tobago. He highlighted that there would be a limited hospital capacity if there is a surge in COVID-19 infections.
