The Sod-Turning Ceremony for Headquarters of the Elections and Boundaries Commission

Prime Minister Dr the Hon. Keith Rowley delivered the feature address at the sod-turning ceremony for the construction of the new Headquarters of the Elections and Boundaries Commission today (Wednesday 12th February, 2025).
The proposed six-story building situated at the corner of Lamy Street and Saddle Road in St. Clair, will be on the site formerly occupied by the now-demolished St. Clair Police Station.
The project will provide a centralized administrative facility for the EBC.
During his address, Prime Minister Rowley said the government’s decision for the EBC to have a new headquarters is a commitment to the democratic process. Dr Rowley said the purpose-built project would also create employment opportunities.
The new Elections and Boundaries Commission Headquarters will offer the following:
– The consolidation of scattered EBC sites to one location.
– Office space for over 218 people.
– An atrium, cashiers and meeting spaces.
– Ground Floor Parking for 70 cars.
Minister of Energy and Energy Industries and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for Port-of-Spain North/St. Ann’s West, the Hon. Stuart Young SC delivering remarks said over the last nine and half years the Government did not build any “vanity projects but decided as a matter of priority where the taxpayer’s money should be spent for buildings.” He also congratulated the EBC on being resolute and independent.
Several Government Ministers, His Worship the Mayor of Port of Spain Alderman Chinua Alleyne and representatives of the Elections and Boundaries Commission were also present at today’s event.
