Tour of Greenvale Flood Prevention Works
Prime Minister Dr the Hon. Keith Rowley visited Greenvale, La Horqquetta, today (03. 04.19) for an update on crucial remedial works on the river which runs behind the housing community.
The river was de-silted, dredged and the em¬bank¬ment raised. The work will continue over the next few months and will include the installation of additional water pumps and sluice gates as well as further widening of the Caroni River.
It is expected that when remedial works are completed the Caroni River will have the capacity to hold more than two and a half times the volume of water that now flows along its course.
Residents of the Greenvale Housing Development suffered devastating losses last October after the Caroni River caused widespread floods.
