Trinidad and Tobago Agri-Expo 2024 Opening Ceremony

Prime Minister Dr the Hon. Keith Rowley cut the ribbon to officially open the Trinidad and Tobago Agri-Expo 2024 at the Queen’s Park Savannah today (Friday, August 14, 2024).

Under the theme “Farm to Table – Revolutionising the Local Food Supply Chain,” the TT Agri-Expo 2024 is a key component of the ongoing commitment implemented by the Heads of Government of CARICOM to reduce the region’s large food import bill by 25% by 2025.

In delivering the feature address, Prime Minister Rowley emphasized that the exhibition offers the public, especially young people, a chance to learn about local food production and export. He stated that the Government is committed to supporting agricultural initiatives and is actively investing in programs to engage younger farmers. He said, “We are currently in a program of training an output of 1,500 young people … training them 200 at a time.”

Dr Rowley called on members of the public to support local agricultural enterprises. He noted that as food security becomes increasingly challenging, local food production presents opportunities for employment, business development, and growth. He said, “What we are producing is attractive, it’s healthy, and it is good for us.”

Minister of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries, Senator the Hon. Kazim Hosein; Minister in the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries, Senator the Hon. Avinash Singh; Minister for Agriculture, Land, Fisheries and the Blue Economy of Antigua and Barbuda, the Hon. Anthony Smith; and Minister of Planning, Agriculture, Housing & Infrastructure Development of the Cayman Islands, the Hon. Johany Ebanks, were also present at today’s opening ceremony.

The TT Agri-Expo 2024 will take place from August 16-18 and is expected to feature over 300 exhibitors.
